With such a portable, user-friendly device, it is easy to understand why the Smart Lift Vest is safe and simple to use. As the demand for heightened patient handling increases every year, the Smart Lift Vest only becomes more and more valuable. People are living longer, which means that falls in older adults are more likely to occur. When using the Smart Lift Vest, patients and caregivers alike get a decreased risk of harm and lessen expenses, all at a small portion of the cost of a no-lift system. Whether you are a caregiver, nurse or first responder, the Smart Lift Vest is a great way to safely lift and transfer an immobile or fallen loved one or patient.
What Does the Smart Lift System Include?
The knee belt can be used during any of the following scenarios:
- A patient or a loved one has fallen to the floor and is unable to get up without assistance
- An individual must be lifted and moved from a seated position
- An individual must be transferred into or out of a vehicle
The waist belt can be used for a number of scenarios. If the patient or loved one is capable and wants to use his/her hands to assist; if the patient lacks sufficient arm strength to depress into the arm pads; or if the patient cannot follow simple commands, the waist belt may be a good option.
The floor leads should be used on a transfer that calls for two lifters.
How Do I Use the Smart Lift Accessories?
If using the Smart Lift Vest on someone, take the following steps to fit the Smart Lift knee belt, waist belt and floor leads.
Fulcrum / knee belt: Wrap the knee belt around the loved one or patient’s knees and secure the buckle. Always connect the belt to the person’s knees. Place the padded section in front of his/her legs. The padded section should always be between the patient/loved one and the caregiver. Tighten the webbing strap to allow three to four inches between the patient's knees.
Waist belt: Hook the waist belt at the base of the vest to the metal O-rings.
Floor Leads: You will attach the floor leads to the upper O-rings situated on the front of the Smart Lift Vest.
The Smart Lift Vest is easy on, easy off. When there’s an emergency, that’s what you want because there is no time to spare. On the other hand, if you simply want to help a loved move from one position to another, the Smart Lift Vest makes it safe for you — the lifter — and your loved one.
